Bowel prep before surgery
Bowel preparation prior to surgery consists of both a mechanical bowel prep, and an antibiotic prep. The mechanical prep clears the colon of solid stool. The antibiotic prep decreases the number of bacteria that reside in the colon. They are both important aspects of reducing the incidence of infections in the post-operative period.
