are not sure what to buy, please ask the pharmacist. Prescription is
needed for both Neomycin and Erythromycin antibiotics. No prescription
is needed for bowel prep solution.
Fleets Phospho-soda preps come in a 3oz.
package. This contains 2 small bottles, each of which contain
1½ fl. oz. (3 tablespoons) of solution.
This makes it convenient, as each dose has already been premeasured.
The hospital will call you the day before your surgery (Friday for Monday procedures) to notify you of your arrival and procedure times. If you are not going to be home to receive this call, please call the pre-surgical nurse at (608) 643-7193 weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 9a.m. and 4p.m. to obtain your arrival time. Your allergies, medical and surgical history, and medications will be reviewed over the telephone, so have this information available.
Drink only clear liquids for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Solid foods, milk, or dairy products are not allowed. Clear liquids include all of the following that are not colored red or purple:
Take 1 dose of Neomycin and Erythromycin antibiotics. These medications may cause upset stomach, but are important in preventing infection after your surgery.
Add 1½ fl. oz. (3
tablespoons)(use measuring spoon, not tableware) of Fleet
Phospho-soda to one-half glass (4 fl. oz.) of cold clear liquid and
drink. Follow immediately with 8 fl. oz. of clear liquid.
Then, drink 2-3 twelve ounce glasses of water between 1st
and 2nd dose of prep.
Individual responses to laxatives vary.
this prep often woks within 30 minutes, but may take as long as 3
hours. Remain close to toilet facilities as multiple bowel
movements will occur.
